EPHESUS AMPHITHEATHRE, RESTORATION DESIGN
In ancient times, Ephesus was one of the oldest, largest and most important Greek cities of Asia Minor and was home to the Temple of Artemis, being one of the Seven Wonders of the World. In ancient times the city was right on the sea, but by sedimentation, climatic and seismic-related changes, the coastline moved over time to the west, so that the remains of the city are several kilometers inland today. The ruins of Ephesus are near Selcuk, about 70 km south of Izmir, on the west coast of Turkey. Between 1895 – 2016, the Austrian Archaeological Institute (ÖAI) was carrying out systematic excavations in Ephesus.
convex Ltd. Şti. has undertaken the design works for the restoration of the south analemma in the antic Ephesus Theather on behalf of the Austrian Archaelogical Institute and Municipality of Ephesus. Under the scope of works, convex has provided the restoration and detail design for the following five areas:
- Quarry stone arch in corridor
- Cut-Stone arch
- Foundation of chamber partition wall
- Crack in the arch ceiling of north chamber
- The remaining part of the southern arch
